Born in Brazil in 1947, BENÍCIO ALBANO WERNER is the son of farmers who, at the time of his birth, were tobacco producers. His father, Harry Antonio Werner, was the founder of the Brazilian Association of Tobacco Farmers (Afubra), an entity that Benício now chairs. He holds a degree in Accounting Sciences from the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (UNISC), and specialized in Risk Management in Agribusiness from the Institute for International Research, in Management by Processes from International Business Communications, and in Programmed Technical Instruction from the Centro de Estudos Superiores Coad. His professional experience highlights the management of financial and accounting matters. He held the position of treasurer of Afubra for over 20 years, until he was elected president of the entity in 2007. He was re-elected in 2011 (2011/15 term), in 2015 (2015/2019 term), and in 2019 (2019/2023 term). At the same time, he is also a director of Agro-Comercial Afubra Ltda. Without neglecting agriculture, where he grew up with his family, he managed a small area of land, where he produced tobacco and parallel crops, with the help of third parties. In 2012, he sold the property to his partners/tenants. He is vice-president of the Superior Council of the Associação Pró-Ensino in Santa Cruz do Sul (Apesc) and founding member and president of the Fiscal Council of the Instituto Crescer Legal. He is a member of the Fiscal Council of the Santa Cruz do Sul Firefighters Group. At the International Tobacco Growers' Association (ITGA) he has always acted as Brazil's delegate, since its foundation. In May 2006 he became president of the ITGA, serving for six months as interim president, after which he was elected president of the international entity for the 2006/08 term. He assumed the vice-presidency of ITGA for the 2012/14 term. Currently, holds the position of Treasurer at ITGA
